Part of "Detroit – Berlin: One Circle"

In an exchange project a young generation of Berlin and Detroit artists turned to hip hop. Poets, MCs, singers and producers recorded an album and shot a film in the American city, revealing their great curiosity and enthusiasm for the mutual encounter and the artistic collaboration. What emerged is a unique project between formerly imprisoned youth and already established artists from Berlin and Detroit, which is slated to continue this year as well. The project exposes the wide scope of styles, languages and genres from the contemporary arts scene in both cities, in which an internationally networked poetry, spoken word and hip hop scene has developed over the last ten to twenty years. The focus is on new configurations and contextualizations, on how signs and languages get reinterpreted in the transfer process of appropriation. Following the film there will be an opportunity for discussion.

After the performance on 1 June: Artist Talk with Olad Aden, Phillip Halver, Ninjah and Sarah Reimann.
