Sinti and Roma in Berlin – during and after the genocide

On 16 December, 1942 the so-called Auschwitz Decree of the National Socialists mandated the deportation of Sinti and Roma into concentration camps. On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of this decree, HAU will commemorate the persecution as well as the murder, focusing on current struggles for an improved legal and social situation for survivors and their families. Next to a discussion with the contemporary witnesses Romano Hanstein, Petra Rosenberg and Rita Vowe-Trollmann, Berlin pupils of the Anna-Freud-school, the Ernst-Haeckel-school and the Fritz-Karsen-school, the latter in cooperation with the Houseclub of HAU, will present their research on Erna Lauenburger, Ewald Hanstein (Romano Hanstein’s father) and Johann "Rukeli" Trollmann (Rita Vowe-Trollmann’s father). Furthermore the violin duo  a cuore under the direction of Jean Berlescu will play.
