In 2017 the interdisciplinary artist Tiff Massey managed to land on the list of Favorite Dance Tracks at the radio station NPR with her first track “DETROIT IS BLACK”. Her new song cycle, which she will present at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, traces the path from her childhood in Detroit to becoming a successful artist, not leaving out the people that put up obstructions along the way. Massey is known for saying things out loud that most people don’t want to acknowledge. With influences from hip hop to house music, she provides a perspective on how to assess the current development of Detroit in light of the city’s history. She uses her position as an artist to lend a voice to old school Detroiters and to change how we view these people. She will be joined in her performance, which she developed especially for “Detroit-Berlin: One Circle”, by her long-time friend the MC, singer and songwriter Monica Blaire

After the performance on 2 June: Artist Talk with Tiff Massey and Natalie Bayer.
