As part of its millennium development goals, the UN resolved to cut poverty in half by 2015. Two years after the deadline the group Gintersdorfer/Klaßen takes stock of the situation. Performers from the Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Germany meet with artists and students from the Académie des Beaux-Arts from Kinshasa. They cover the progress, or lack of it, in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the last 15 years. Texts are translated and reedited as they are spoken. The fantastic performers, who playfully translate their counterpart’s texts as they are spoken, confront the universalist orientation of the UN programme with the reality of Kinshasa’s urban development. A photo series documents the activities at the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the meeting with Cheri Cheri and Ministre des Poubelles of the artist-group Peintre Populaire, and the production of two songs including a video. The German premiere of the international project, which was newly developed for Lisbon and Brussels, will take place at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. Since 2005 the director Monika Gintersdorfer and the visual artist Knut Klaßen have been collaborating with a German-Ivorian team. Their projects take shape in collective authorship with the performers. Once again this time they are bringing fast-paced choreography with a whiff of show business to the stage at HAU2.
