Auguste Ouédraogo

Tourments noirs / Black Torments

Part of the Festival "Sleepless Nights: Burkina Faso between Culture and Revolution"

The solo is inspired by the speeches of Thomas Sankara. The President of Burkina Faso, assassinated in 1987, has become a hero, especially for the young generation. It places the question of black identity in the context of globalization. Shall one stay, or leave everything behind and go off into the unknown? The dancer and choreographer Auguste Ouédraogo shows the body as a mouthpiece for the search for a better future, expressing its insecurities, its hope, and its suffering.
