Starting at approx. 5:30 pm

05.10. and 06.10.17, 20:00-22:00

As part of the season opening 2017/2018 of HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Amanda Piña and Daniel Zimmermann will present the piece ‘Dance and Resistance‘ on October 5th and 6th. For this and a previous workshop, we are looking for 20 interested participants between 5 and 90 years.

In this workshop, participants will learn ritual group dances which will be part of the performance. The workshop is about sharing dances and presence, practicing them in commonality; it is not very physical but still complex and it creates an intense experience. What the participant will do on stage stays very accessible and has to do with sharing this experience of togetherness with the audience.
Most of the dances taught during the workshop were banned, persecuted or modified to serve the purposes of the colonization and evangelization. To de-exotize tradition, re-contextualize and re-signify the original content of these dances are part of this artistic endeavor. We will focus on the contemporary potential of old ritual dances today, in the theatre as a form of cultural resistance. Using each movement as a “matrix” of experience, in order to explore the political and environmental agency of dance.

Needs and Requirements:
-    Age range: 5-90 years
-    Interested in dance

Language for the workshop will be both, German and English.
A small allowance fee is being paid to the participants.
Experience in dance is not required.
