Smockey

Smockey, actually Serge Martin Bambara, was born the son of a Burkinabe father and a French mother in Ouagadougou. After studying in France, where he turned his attention to music, he returned to Burkina Faso and founded the studio Abazon, specialising in rap and hip hop, where he primarily produced underground artists. At the same time, he first album “Epitaphe” was released, followed by “Zamana” and “Code Noir”, all of which show him as political activist. Smockey has collaborated with numerous other artists including the Senegalese rapper Didier Awadi. In 2013, together with his colleague Sams’K Le Jah, he founded the Balai Citoyen (“The Citizen’s Broom”), a youth movement that advocates for democracy in Burkina Faso.
