Kadir "Amigo" Memiş

Kadir Amigo Memis was born in Bilecik, Turkey in 1974 and came to Berlin at the age of ten. Inspired by the emerging hip hop culture of the 1980s, he taught himself how to dance on the street. In 1993 Amigo and Vartan Bassil founded the B-Boy Crew Flying Steps, with which they won numerous titles in the renowned Breakdance Battles. Together with Takao Bab, Amigo founded the Dance-Unity, a communication platform that offers dancers worldwide the possibility of exchange. Funkin’ Stylez was also brought to life this way, becoming one of the largest international hip hop battles in Germany. In Amigo’s productions the individual exchange between dancers from various cultures plays a central role. He has worked at numerous theater and operahouses, such as the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, at Mousonturm, at Tanzhaus NRW, and at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. Additionally, his pieces have been performed in numerous European cities such as Paris, Helsinki and Istanbul.
