Benny Claessens studied at the Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp. Starting in 2003 he worked at Toneelhuis in Antwerp under the artistic direction of Luk Perceval as well as in co-productions with the Vienna Festival and in “Turista” at the Schaubühne in Berlin. In 2006 he founded the group EISBÄR, whose performances have been shown in Holland and Belgium. For his role in “Ritter, Dene, Voss” Claessens received the Arlecchino Award in Amsterdam in 2009. In 2010, working with Alain Platel’s dance collective ballet C de la B, he was seen in the production “Primero-Erscht” by Lisi Estaras. From 2010 to 2015 Benny Claessens was a permanent ensemble member of the Munich Kammerspiele, and since 2015 he is in the ensemble at NTGent. At the Munich Kammerspiele Benny Claessens produced the piece “spectacular lightshows of which u don’t see the effect” together with Risto Kübar, and in 2016 his piece “Hello useless – for W and friends” was premiered at CAMPO in Ghent. “spectacular lightshows of which u don’t see the effect” was shown in April at HAU Hebbel am Ufer.
